Small Acts, Big Waves: The 8-Point Manifesto Behind SipSeaChange
At the heart of the #SipSeaChange campaign is our 8-Point Ocean Action Manifesto - a simple, practical guide to protecting our seas, starting right here in Jersey and rippling out to coastlines around the world. These small, everyday choices add up to real impact. Here's how you can be part of the change:
-
Protect Our Beaches
Jersey’s beaches are stunning – and keeping them clean helps stop plastic and litter from reaching the ocean. Join a local beach clean or simply bring a bag and go solo. -
Choose Sustainable Seafood
Support local fisheries that use responsible methods. Ask where your fish comes from, choose line-caught or certified sustainable options, and avoid endangered species. -
Rethink How You Travel
Walk, cycle, or use Jersey’s bus network when you can. Reducing car use cuts emissions that contribute to ocean warming and acidification - two of the biggest threats to marine life. -
Switch to Ocean-Safe Products
Use reef-friendly sunscreens and biodegradable soaps. Harmful chemicals from everyday products can damage marine ecosystems. Zero-waste stores in Jersey offer great alternatives. -
Say No to Single-Use Plastics
Avoid plastic bags, bottles, straws, and packaging whenever possible. On an island like Jersey, every piece of plastic avoided is one less threat to ocean life. -
Support Marine Protected Areas
Jersey has designated marine conservation zones. Back local efforts to expand and protect them, and use your voice on social media and in your community. -
Educate the Next Generation
Talk to children about tide pools, sea creatures, and how litter harms wildlife. We’re creating a kid-friendly toolkit to help - coming soon! -
Vote for the Ocean
Support leaders and policies that prioritise clean energy, habitat protection, and waste reduction. Change on land means change at sea.
These steps are more than suggestions - they’re a manifesto for ocean action. Together, through art, awareness, and everyday behaviour, we can build a wave of change. That’s what #SipSeaChange is all about.
